Since the childhood, boxing became a part of Magomed Kurbanov’s life. In the amateur boxing he got the title of Master of Sports and won Russian Spartakiad.
His professional debut was on June 19, 2015 in the city of Yekaterinburg. Magomed Kurbanov knocked down his rival from Cameroon Charlan Takam already in the 1st round. The fight was finished in the 2nd round when Takam was in fact knocked down but still standing, the referee stopped the fight. As a result Magomed won by TKO in the 2nd round.
On the May 6, 2016 in the city of Yekaterinburg Magomed and his competitor from Armenia Manuk Dilanyan met in the fight for vacant title WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver. In the 9th round Magomed won by TKO.
On the July 11, 2016 on the arena of The Palace of Sports, Yekaterinburg in the undercard of the fight Sergey Kovalev – Isaak Chilemba, the winner of the WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver title in super welterweight Magomed Kurbanov defended his title in the fight with Davi Eliasquevici. In the 3rd round with a powerful left hook Kurbanos knocked down Eliasquevici.
On November,18 2016 boxer from Yekaterinburg Magomed “Black Lion” Kurbanov won his 9th bout in a row. This time he was stronger than his rival Dennis Laurente from the Philippines. The bout lasted 10 rounds. Kurbanov defeated by unanimous decision of judges and won the vacant WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council Super Welterweight title.
On December, 17 2016 Magomed fought with Alexander Povetkin in one fightcard in Yekaterinburg at IEC Yeakaterinburg-Expo. The super welterweight Russian boxer Magomed Kurbanov appeared on the ring against Szabolcs Szabo. It was a fight for the vacant WBO Youth title. Magomed won by a technical knock-out in the 2nd minute and became WBO World Youth Champion.
